Welcome to the JMac and Martina Show

Rub a dub dub, Djokovic and Nadal in the tub

  • TTC’s coverage of Roland Garros will feature match commentary by John McEnroe and Martina Navratilova. Fans eagerly await a double dose of ‘how I could do it better’. Uhhh, yay? [OTB News]
  • OTB QOTD: “He’s terrible. He doesn’t know anything about tennis. That’s not good enough for the ATP president.” — Nikolay Davydenko, also referring to Etienne de Villiers as “Walt Disney”. Coincidence that he lost today? Hmm. [Telegraph UK]
  • Nicole Pratt blogs from the Fed Cup match-up in Austria that the courts suck and her captain is an ignoramus. [Tennis Australia]
  • Tommy Robredo blogs from Monte Carlo that he’s illegally copying music, impersonating others, and trying to pay off fans. [Some Blog About Tommy]
  • Amelie Mauresmo is playing an hour a day and doing fitness training. She is officially entered for the German Open in Berlin. [OTB News]
  • Promoters for the China Open announced that they’ll be holding an Idolesque theme song contest with the slogan, “Sing for the China Open with Unlimited Energy”. [PR News]
  • The Chinese Tennis Association didn’t play their two top players in Fed Cup because they didn’t understand the rules. …I’m gonna take a wild guess that the China Open singing contest is doomed. [Reuters]
  • Blogger has a problem with the USTA understanding what team he plays on. [Some Blog]
  • Mark Philippoussis and Pete Sampras will visit Greece next month to play in Athens as the Champions Series stages its first tennis tournament outside of North America. Women aren’t safe. Uh, nor are men. [Tennis Backhander]
  • USTA says it will make a decision by the end of April as to whether it will seek to move the Men’s Clay Court Championship to Charleston and try ask ET’s permission to make it a combined event. [Post and Courier]
  • Rafael Nadal is keeping his eye on a Spanish kid named Carlos Boluda. And not in the kinda way you think either, gutterbrain. [Telegraph UK]
  • Pic o’ the Day: Caption Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in the hot tub at Indian Wells. On second thought, better make that an internal dialogue. [OTB Random Pic File]

TTC could probably save some money by adding Tracey Austin to lineup, dropping all the expensive coverage rights and just have John, Martina & Tracey tell us all about their careers. Again. Weeee!

On a related note, televised coverage of the Family Circle Cup featured entire rallies without voice over from the commentators. It was much appreciated. Did you hear they might move the US Men’s Clay Championships to the Family Circle site? I’m all for more joint WTA/ATP events. Assuming player strikes don’t count as an event.

How many guys are crammed into that hot tub? I mean, is it a Palm Springs thing or what?

That photo is AWESOME. Nole always struck me as a dirty boy, and Nadal’s expression is priceless in its naive charm. (where is *his* hand exactly??)

CJ, did you see the part where it says, “USTA says it will make a decision by the end of April as to whether it will seek to move the Men’s Clay Court Championship to Charleston”?

Yea, I’m a big fan of the ATP TV feed due to its total lack of commentating. Honestly, do we really need some dumbass to tell us things like how many break chances the player has or to talk over the point about what they had for lunch?

Maybe that’s harsh ((shrug)).

Anyway, the TTC French Open Mix coverage on DirecTV is going to be multi-court with no chatter. I’ll be like an ADD kid in a crystal meth tennis candy store. Gotta go get me a dish or scour the phones for a friend with one.

Clair, yep… I know it’s a great site where fans can get really close to the players, so I’m not sure if it could handle both events in the same week, but maybe back to back?

Lynn, I’ve never had dish envy, but the multi-court coverage sounds so sweet.
